Summary

'The sense of dread deepens as the snow falls in Ruth Ware's tensely plotted and deliciously cast alpine thriller' Louise Candlish, bestselling author of Our House

**The unmissable new thriller from the queen of the modern-day murder mystery。**

Snow is falling in the exclusive alpine ski resort of Saint Antoine, as the shareholders and directors of Snoop, the hottest new music app, gather for a make or break corporate retreat to decide the future of the company。 At stake is a billion-dollar dot com buyout that could make them all millionaires, or leave some of them out in the cold。

The clock is ticking on the offer, and with the group irrevocably split, tensions are running high。 When an avalanche cuts the chalet off from help, and one board member goes missing in the snow, the group is forced to ask - would someone resort to murder, to get what they want?

Praise for Ruth Ware’s addictive thrillers:

'Atmospheric and eerie with Agatha Christie vibes' Prima

'Ruth Ware just gets better and better’ Lisa Jewell, author of The People Upstairs

'A dark tale by one of the best thriller writers around' Independent

'Will hold you captive until the brilliant ending'
Shari Lapena, author of Someone We Know

‘A real spine-chiller that confirms Ruth Ware as the true heir to Christie’s crown。 Ingenious plotting sees the body count rise and multiple suspects eliminated until we’re left with breathless game of cat-and-mouse’ Erin Kelly, bestselling author of He Said, She Said

Quick who-Dunn-it read - once I got into it I couldn’t put it done。 But never satisfied when I learn the why。 I enjoyed the setting because of my own girls trip to French Alps。 🏔⛷🚠

Mostly predictable, a plot hole here and there。interesting when it touches on questions of class and dealing with grief。 Good skewering of the internet start up milieu。

Come for the schadenfreude we all feel when things don’t work out for tech bros, stay for the smart plotting and fun premise。 The pacing is good。 The characters are well-drawn and sometimes ridiculous, but in a good way。 This is the exact kind of book you’ll enjoy on vacation—an easy reading page-turner。

Don’t waste your time。 It’s a boring read with nothing resembling a good plot twist。

3。5 stars rounded down。 I've read and enjoyed most of Ware's other books。 This was decent, but not my favorite。 Slow to start/end, but the middle was edge of your seat exciting。 3。5 stars rounded down。 I've read and enjoyed most of Ware's other books。 This was decent, but not my favorite。 Slow to start/end, but the middle was edge of your seat exciting。 。。。more

There have been many retellings of Agatha Christie's book And Then There Were None, many of them quite good。 This is not one of them。 In fact, you could drive a train through the holes in this story。First, these are modern times。 Any high end resort located in a remote area these days is equipped with backup generator power and especially at least one SAT Phone。 But noooo。 After the avalance these people are instantly plunged into cold and darkness。 Then the water pipes freeze and it's a big sur There have been many retellings of Agatha Christie's book And Then There Were None, many of them quite good。 This is not one of them。 In fact, you could drive a train through the holes in this story。First, these are modern times。 Any high end resort located in a remote area these days is equipped with backup generator power and especially at least one SAT Phone。 But noooo。 After the avalance these people are instantly plunged into cold and darkness。 Then the water pipes freeze and it's a big surprise。 Seriously, anyone who has ever lived in a wintry area knows that even running a trickle of COLD water through the pipes will keep them open for days。Most ridiculous of all was that the hotel was hosting a corporate retreat for a tech company。 A tech company mind you, and yet not one guest had any way to recharge their devices except plugging them in。 No solar rechargers, no battery rechargers, just a bunch of tech people who thought it would be fun to go old school。Spoiler: After three days the non-techie host is the only one to figure out that the guy who was using his computer days after the power outage must be charging it somehow。 Then she finds the dead guy's cell phone, charges it, and manages to send a text but she fails to hide the phone in a secure place and even forgets to turn the volume down so the murderer won't hear the ping。 And of course, harkening back to the drunken protagonist in The Girl on The Train, Ruth Ware seems to love confused, inarticulate characters who can't seem to recall crucial details until it's too late。 I can only ask myself where Ms。 Ware's editor was in all this。 Aren't they paid to catch these glaring holes and find a way to explain them away? Isn't an author supposed to research the subject before they begin writing? I think they just rushed a lazy effort onto the shelves to capitalize on Ruth Ware's name and get another book on the shelves no matter how poorly done。 。。。more

This was the story that I didn't want to stop reading。。。 and I don't like that because it prevents me from doing things I had planned to do。 But, nonetheless, I kept reading。 And you know, once you are 'almost' done, you HAVE to finish the book。 The characters were interesting, with relatable issues。 The situation was realistic, with great plot twists。 Others may not be as inthralled as I was with this story, but something about it was personal to me, and I was engaged with how characters reacte This was the story that I didn't want to stop reading。。。 and I don't like that because it prevents me from doing things I had planned to do。 But, nonetheless, I kept reading。 And you know, once you are 'almost' done, you HAVE to finish the book。 The characters were interesting, with relatable issues。 The situation was realistic, with great plot twists。 Others may not be as inthralled as I was with this story, but something about it was personal to me, and I was engaged with how characters reacted。 I've read other books by Ruth Ware and am starting to be a huge fan。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book and the twists。 When I look back at the story, I've noticed that a lot of things have a double meaning I didn't know about and I love that。 This is my first book I've read from Ruth Ware and I'm so excited to read more。 I really enjoyed this book and the twists。 When I look back at the story, I've noticed that a lot of things have a double meaning I didn't know about and I love that。 This is my first book I've read from Ruth Ware and I'm so excited to read more。 。。。more

I don't particularly care for mysteries and this was no exception。 There is no character development and frequently the reason for the murder is lame。 I don't particularly care for mysteries and this was no exception。 There is no character development and frequently the reason for the murder is lame。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 3。5 stars。 Enjoyed this book despite massive plot holes which makes me think no one technically inclined was consulted, because **SPOILERS** (1) Elliot would not have been able to track Eva’s location after power/cell service went out since he would need connection to the server and (2) Erin would not have been able to see that there were two nearby Snoop users since their phones were dead。 🤷🏻‍♀️ But a fast read nonetheless and a good whodunit。

Great all around and the suspense leading to the end。 I had a thought of who it was and then the ending was kind of meh 😐

I Cannot read another “rich people went on a luxury vacation in a remote location, someone murdered someone in the party, who is it” thrillers。 It’s all that has come out as a thriller lately。 No thanks。 Passing for a better book。 It may be better than the rest but I’m not wasting my minimal reading time on a repetitive plot theme。

Loved this one。 Loved the characters。 Loved the setting。 Loved the murder mystery。 Was holding my breath for the last quarter of the book。 Imogen church reads all her books and she’s an amazing narrator。 Set in a chalet before snd after an avalanche, 8 coworkers are on a work get away to discuss the future of the business。 It’s them and 2 employees if the chalet who are friends。 People start turning up dead。 Who’s the killer and how will they get saved after the avalanche?

When I first started this, I thought it was a little slow and predictable。 By the time I was halfway through I could not put it down。 Another good Ruth Ware thriller!

Entertaining! I don’t know if it’s just because I had read Pretty Things by Janelle Brown before this so it felt very repetitive。 The theme of the peril of social media is not well explored in this novel。 Also, I did not like the way the author portrayed mental illness/shyness and compared it to homicidal thoughts。 Never the less, it was twisty and I did enjoy it, just not my favorite!
